Youth basketball leagues in the South Okanagan are starting to take shape for this winter.

Registration is now open for Lake City Basketball's two youth leagues, which are both set to begin in January.

Sessions are offered for athletes in Grades 2 to 4 (rookie league) and Grades 5 to 7 (pro league).

"Our youth leagues are designed for players new to the game as well as those who have played organized basketball before," said Chris Terris, director of Lake City Basketball.

According to league officials, athletes will be divided into four teams and play six weeks of league games before a playoff tournament in the final two weeks. Games will be played on Sundays at Okanagan College in Penticton.

Both leagues are co-ed and will be capped at 40 players, with age-appropriate skill development and full-court games among the sessions offered.

"We really strive to create a challenging but supportive environment so young players have fun in a competitive setting," Terris said.
