This Sunday, the Summerland Legion plans to honour one of their highest profile members.

Penticton’s Beamer Wigley performs at the Kids Division Semi-Finals in the PNE Star Showdown. The annual summer fair in Vancouver, featuring over 700 shows, exhibits and attractions, runs through Sept. 5.

Summer is perhaps the best time of year in the Okanagan. The sun is shining. People seem more relaxed and friendly, happy to pick up local fresh fruits and vegetables at small fruit stands, farmers’ markets and in the local grocery stores.

The annual Summerland Fruit Tree Project has begun its eighth year collecting unwanted fruit in the town. The main goal of the project, organized by the Summerland Asset Development Initiative, is to collect the unharvested fruit that goes to waste each year and distribute it within the community.
