Collaboration beer launches for Penticton Beer Week

Plenty to celebrate and do at Penticton’s 8 breweries

There’s plenty to cheers about for the third annual Penticton Beer Week.

The City of Penticton has officially proclaimed Oct. 15 to 23 as Penticton Beer Week and there is lots going on including live music, trivia nights, brewmaster’s dinner and the Penticton Beer Run this Saturday, Oct. 16.

“With seven, soon to be eight, craft breweries in Penticton, this celebration brings all of our breweries together to showcase our dynamic craft beer scene,” said Kim Lawton on behalf of the eight Penticton breweries on the Penticton Ale Trail.

In 2020, the Lonely Planet named Penticton Canada’s Craft Beer Capital, creating worldwide attention on our local beer scene.

To celebrate, all of Penticton’s breweries got together at Neighbourhood Brewing to make a special collaboration beer.

“This limited release beer is called Do Good, which is a golden sour with honey and citrus. A slightly tart and sweet creation, Do Good is a perfect beer to celebrate what makes Penticton so great,” said Mike Coghill, owner of Neighbourhood Brewing.

Do Good is also a fundraiser and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ooknakane Friendship Centre, an Aboriginal not-for-profit society in Penticton. They will use the funds from the collaboration beer fundraiser to support the work they are doing on their food service program to help those in need in the community.

The beer scene is only growing in Penticton.

Since last year’s Penticton Beer Week, Neighbourhood Brewing has opened, Cannery Brewing celebrated their 20th anniversary, Highway 97 moved to the downtown brewery district on Ellis Street and will be re-opening their new space soon.

Tin Whistle has new owners and has rebranded, Barley Mill celebrated their 25th anniversary, Slackwater Brewing expanded with a new canning line, Bad Tattoo expanded with their new space The Badlands and opened another location in Kelowna and Abandoned Rail Brewing Co. out on the KVR Trail is opening in late November, said Lawton.

“2021 was again a challenging year with COVID, but we decided it was important to celebrate Penticton’s craft beer scene with a Penticton Beer Week designed to work within the current pandemic situation. We’ll have a number of COVID appropriate events and theme days at our breweries as well as around town,” she added.

Do Good is available in 4-packs of 473ml cans at select private liquor stores throughout B.C. so people can enjoy a taste of Penticton wherever they are in the province. It will also be on tap at the breweries and select restaurants.
