Get your deerstalker cap on. The play’s afoot.

For the fourth show in Many Hats Theatre Co. 11th season they present a hilarious modern take on a classic murder mystery by none other than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of Doyle’s most enduring stories and Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery is a modern adaptation by master playwright Ken Ludwig.

Ludwig, the award-winning mastermind of comic mayhem, has created a fast-paced mystery-comedy about everyone’s favourite detective solving his most notorious case. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson must crack the mystery of The Hound of the Baskerville before a family curse dooms its newest heir. Does a wild hellhound prowl the moors of Devonshire? Can our heroes discover the truth in time?

Baskerville is directed by Josephine Patterson and produced by Shannon French. Marlena Dolan stage manages.

Cal Meiklejohn and Martin Pedersen headline as super-sleuth Holmes and his right hand man, Watson, respectively. Playing multiple roles are Rob King, Alyosha Pushak and Kim Russell.

Baskerville opens Sept. 6 and runs until Sept. 29. Performances are at the Cannery Trade Centre building on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. (Note that the Sept. 27 performance is sold out)

Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 for students and seniors (GST included). As usual tickets can be purchased at The Nest and Nectar or reserved during their business hours by phoning 250-493-7275. (note that The Nest and Nectar is closed on Mondays). As a consideration for those with sensitivities please refrain from wearing fragrances to the theatre.

There will two gala opening nights. The first, on Thursday, Sept. 6 there will be the traditional opening reception immediately following the performance featuring treats and wine. Then on Friday, Sept. 7 there will be a reception for opening night number two featuring the most excellent craft beer, more treats and door prizes.

The Cannery Stage will have completely new seats by opening night, thanks to the City of Penticton, Hansel Aluminum Products, the Cannery Trade Centre and the dedicated crew of Many Hats volunteers.
