The Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association is bringing back the Light Up Festival, but much bigger and better than ever before.

Celebrate the magic of the holiday season Saturday, Nov. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the greenspace between city hall and Gyro Park.

“For this year, we decided to move the light up to the area between city hall and Gyro Park where the nose sculpture is. There is an amazing fir tree there that makes the perfect tree to light up, and the City of Penticton has put a lot of effort into the revitalization of that area,” said DPBIA executive director Brett Turner.

“As well, we’re going to have fire pits, live music and lots of fun activities.”

In conjunction with the light up, city hall is going to do their light up at the same time.

Penticton is expanding its holiday lights display with new decorations set to deck city hall.

The city says 2,600 feet of lightning and new rooftop decorations will be installed at the building on Nov. 9 and 10.

Light Up also falls on the same Saturday as the Penticton Art Council’s Fall Art Walk. A total of 21 venues, including art galleries, studios and breweries will be featured in the annual event. The Art Walk will start at the Leir House and move toward Lakeshore Drive, starting at 11 a.m.

“We planned this event for November 19th because the Penticton Art Gallery’s Art Walk (which we sponsor) is earlier this day, and then this event is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., then following that at 7:30 p.m. is an unveiling at the Penticton Art Gallery. Families can take part in the whole day or just the activities that suit them,” said Turner.

With live music, family-friendly activities, food trucks, and the big light-up reveal, this event will be a night to remember, said Turner.

Next up for holiday cheer is the Santa Parade returning to downtown Penticton on Saturday, Dec. 3.
