Here’s what’s happening this weekend in Penticton

A pair of Canadian superstars will take to the Peach City stage on June 10 and 13

Whether it’s an action-filled sporting competition on the lake or a night at the theatre, there’s no shortage of events to attend in Penticton this weekend.

Canadian blues-rock superstar Colin James kicks off the weekend at Cleland Theatre on Friday, June 10, for a show two years in the making. The Regina-born singer-songwriter returns to Penticton after having his March 2020 show at the same venue cancelled amid the pandemic.

James’ 1988 self-titled debut record is his best-selling album to date.

The musician’s Penticton show is set to start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets from James’ cancelled March 2020 show at the theatre will be accepted as valid on Friday night.

Some of the province’s top dragon boat racers will converge at Penticton’s Skaha Lake starting on Saturday morning for the 13th annual Okanagan Super Sprints and the 5th annual Senior Sprints.

About 600 athletes from the Okanagan, Kamloops and the Lower Mainland are expected to attend. The seniors’ races will start on Saturday at 9 a.m. and run until 12 p.m., while the super-sprinters will compete on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will raise money for a new boathouse on Skaha Lake.

The Penticton Golf and Country Club has officially been operational for 100 years and those in charge of the course aren’t going to let the occasion pass without a celebration.

The community’s invited to join in on a 100-year birthday party starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The festivities will feature contests and activities for people to take part in.

A three-day arts and culture festival specifically for children will run at Penticton’s Gyro Park from June 9 to 11.

Music and dance performances will headline the entertainment at the inaugural HaHaHa Kidzfest. Workshops and activities for children will also be on-site for what’s being called an “Around the World in a Festival Day” event.

Tickets listed for $8 will be available in person at Gyro Park.

Jann Arden, a multi-platinum award-winning Canadian singer, will be at the South Okanagan Events Centre on Monday, June 13, as part of the artist’s nationwide tour.

Along with a recent induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Calgary-born musician has been a staple in the nation’s music scene since winning a Juno Award for Solo Artist of the Year in 1994.

Arden’s show at the SOEC is set to begin at 8 p.m.
