Race season kicks into gear this weekend in Penticton, as the city hosts a pair of events on land and in the water.
Here's what's happening on Mother's Day weekend, from May 9 to 11:
Penticton Vees return home for Game 5 (May 9)
The Vees host the Brooks Bandits on Friday night in Game 5 of the Interior Conference finals. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
Penticton won 6-0 in Game 3 in Alberta and trails the series 2-1, as of May 5.
Game 4 will take place in Brooks on Tuesday night (May 6).
Duel in the Desert (May 10 and 11)
The 25th edition of Duel in the Desert, a Western Canada-wide canoe race on Skaha Lake, returns to Penticton this weekend.
Community members are encouraged to come out and support the racers from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The final races will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday.
In 2024, a record 38 teams from across B.C. and Alberta competed in the event.
Mother's Day potluck (May 10)
The Penticton Seniors' Drop-In Centre is hosting a potluck on Saturday afternoon for Mother's Day.
People are asked to bring their favourite dishes in support of the event, which runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Peach City Runners Blossom 8 Miler (May 11)
The Penticton Pounders Running Club hosts the Peach City Runners Blossom 8 Miler Running Race on Sunday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This is the sixth of the Interior Road Race Series.
Beginning at Okanagan Lake Park, participants will run up Vancouver Avenue, Lower Bench Road and along Naramata Road, before returning on the KVR Trail.
Awards and prizes will be handed out after the race.
Taylor Van Zant at Cannery Brewing (May 11)
Solo musician Taylor Van Zant will perform inside Cannery Brewing's taproom on Sunday evening.
There is no cover charge for the show, which runs from 5 to 7 p.m.
