One of Canada’s most celebrated songwriters is making his way down Highway 97 this fall for a special tour through B.C.’s Interior, with Penticton’s Cleland Theatre among the stops.
William Prince, the recipient of a Juno award in 2017 for Indigenous Music Album of the Year, is coming to the Peach City venue on Dec. 2 as part of the Route 97 Culture Road Trip Series.
The series not only aims to promote Canadian musicians but also Highway 97 as a viable touring route, from Salmon Arm to Penticton.
“William Prince is one of the most talked about and recognized new artists in the country,” said Mark Greenhalgh, one of the creators of the Route 97 series. “We are very lucky to be presenting William and his band for the first time at the Cleland Community Theatre here in Penticton and the region.”
Prince, a two-time winner of the Canadian Folk Music Award, appeared on stage with Serena Ryder at the 2021 Juno Awards.
“He is such an exciting Canadian talent, now getting traction internationally,” Greenhalgh added.
Along with Prince, the Route 97 tour features Vancouver rage-funk band Raincity in Oliver on Sept. 12 and Vernon’s own Andrew Allen on Dec. 18.
Prince, a Winnipeg, Man. artist, is expected to showcase material from his most recent studio album, Gospel First Nation, at his show at Cleland Theatre.
