You are never too young or too old to try roller skating. The next pop up roller skating night in Penticton takes place as a tailgate party at the new outdoor skating rink on Martin Street, Friday May 6. (PRS Facebook)

Come for a tailgate roller skate party at the new outdoor rink on Martin Street in Penticton Friday, May 6 from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Penticton Roller Skate (PRS) is at it again, this time hosting its first pop-up roller skate night at the new outdoor rink.

Bring your gear or rent from them and come out for an outdoor community roller rink in this amazing new space provided by Activate Penticton beside Gyro Park at 107 Martin Street.

PRS will be on site with music, lights, and free rental skates. For those using PRS skates, helmets must be supplied by each skater, and are required for skaters 13 and younger. Skate sizes available are mens J10 to 12.

Penticton Roller Skate has successfully brought back roller skating to the community, with pop up roller skating nights at the Penticton Convention Centre packing the place each night they host an event.

The PRS has also held youth skating and held their first skate night in Oliver last week. According to organizers, the popularity of roller skating is back.

“I am thrilled that Penticton is supporting this,” said Kim Wall, co-owner of LockWorks and one of the main organizers of skate night. “I’ve had people reach out for private bookings, and even a municipality looking for rink nights and skate classes. The future is very bright for roller skating in the South Okanagan.”
