Penticton’s Tempest Theatre & Film Society is celebrating its first year of operation with Terrible Temptations Two and Dia De Los Muertos: The Resurrection, on Nov. 2.

The event will run from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the theatre, located at 125 Eckhardt Ave. E. and will give attendees a chance to celebrate with the theatre and get into the spooky season spirit.

“It has been a spectacular year and we are grateful for all of the partnerships, support and creative collaboration,” stated the event details on Eventbrite. “We foresee 2020 will bring even more exciting events, full plays, guest speakers, classes and workshops. We will also focus on developing our new plays and film and TV projects.”

The night will start with Dia De Los Muertos: The Resurrection, and attendees are encouraged to “dress up, explore and celebrate” the Mexican holiday also known as the Day of the Dead. The holiday marks a time to pray and remember friends and family who have died, and those who partake normally create and decorate altars and prepare traditional dishes.

For those celebrating the holiday with Tempest Theatre, guests will get to sip wine provided by wineries from the Naramata Bench which will receive a shout out in the pre-show Wine Monologues. Tapas will also be provided in the venue’s “intimate downstairs lounge while you peruse the work of local guest visual artists Bill Blair and Johann Wessels.”

At 7:30 p.m., Terrible Temptations Two takes the stage in the spirit of Halloween and will be bringing back “an evening that groans with ghastly antics and oozes with dark comedy.” The show is a repeat of last year’s, which “brought a ghoulish and twisted evening of scenes and monologues written about the plays and their wine pairings.”

“These scenes and short plays will be paired with select wines to create a unique, eerie and sensuous evening,” states Tempest’s event summary. “In addition to the immersive experience, it’s an excellent opportunity to introduce audiences to our incredible local wines and new, creative ways of experiencing them.”

The show contains mature content and is recommended for a 19+ audience. Following the performance, the stage will be cleared for a “Los Muertos dance party to summon our ghosts and celebrate life.”

Tickets for this event are $77 each and are available online or at the theatre. Terrible Temptations Two also has show dates on Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 3 though these will not include the Dia De Los Muertos event.
