Letter: Concerns from an advocate for safety on public transit

I suggest that the City of Penticton re-establish their Transportation Advisory Committee

I’m a regular user of Penticton’s public transit.

Which means that as I get around this wonderful city I see many of the City of Penticton’s bungling attempts to provide some form of so-called safe public transit to the valley’s citizens and visitors.

Recently was the worst insult to transit users, especially those who have mobility issues, or are just plain frail elderly people insisting they can get around without a walker or wheelchair. The person or persons who planned the “accessible” bus stop on Cambie Street, just off Vancouver Avenue, apparently were without a brain, or possibly it’s incomplete.

Aside from the fact nobody using the ramp could get off without rolling down into the community garden, the bus stop post is blocking the yellow pad.

Then there’s the issue of the city forgetting to put the bus stop back by the new hospital tower. The only feasible way seems to be ripping up some of the new medians.

I suggest that the city re-establish their Transportation Advisory Committee so that they have a chance to possibly show they really do care about the 33,000-plus who live here, and not just tourism and sports.
