Though the news has been buzzing around town for a month, Cirque du Soleil made the official announcement this week that their critically-acclaimed touring production Dralion is coming to the South Okanagan Events Centre at the end of June.

The show has played to more than eight million people since it premiered in 1999. It draws its name, pronounced drah-lee-on from two symbols used in the performance, a dragon, representing the east and a lion, representing the west.

The international cast features 52 world-class acrobats, gymnasts, musicians, singers and comedic characters, in a fusion of ancient Chinese circus traditions and the modern style of Cirque du Soleil.

There will be eight performances of Dralion between June 29 and  July 3 at the SOEC. Advance, discounted, tickets are available now to members of the free Cirque Club (www.cirqueclub.com) while tickets for the general public will be available starting 10 a.m. Monday at SOEC Box Office, the Wine Country Visitor Centre, online at www.cirquedusoleil.com/dralion and www.valleyfirsttix.com or by phone at 1-877-763-2849.
