Kohl takes her Portrait through valley

North Okanagan-Shuswap residents will also be able to see George Ryga's Portrait of a Lady: A Tribute to Margaret Lawrence, featuring Dorianne Kohl, when it tours next month.

It’s been a few years since Armstrong actress Dorianne Kohl reprised her role as Hagar Shipley in A Portrait of a Lady A Tribute to Margaret Lawrence.

Scheduled to perform at this year’s eighth annual George Ryga award ceremony in Summerland, North Okanagan-Shuswap residents will also be able to see the play next month.

Due to popular demand, three additional shows have been added to the Portrait of a Lady tour, and tickets for the production are available immediately, said the show’s producer Ken Smedley, also manager of the George Ryga Centre, which is housed in the late author’s Summerland home.

The performance is based on Ryga’s seminal adaptation of Margaret Laurence’s classic novel The Stone Angel, with Kohl taking on the role as the book’s ill-fated heroine.

The tour starts in Salmon Arm with a performance at the  Shuswap Theatre Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available at Acorn Music (phone 250-832-8669.)

On Sept. 29, the show will be presented at the Centennial Theatre in Armstrong at 8 p.m.

Tickets are at The Brown Derby restaurant in Armstrong. (Call 250-546-8221.)

The third performance will take place Oct. 6 (please note date change) at Vernon’s Powerhouse Theatre at 8 p.m.

Tickets are at The BookNook in Vernon. (Call 250-558-0668.)

Kohl will take the performance to Summerland’s Centre Stage Theatre for the Ryga award ceremony, where an author will be recognized for his/her book dedicated to social awareness, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the ceremony are available at Martin’s Flowers in Summerland (250-494-5432) and the Dragon’s Den in Penticton (250-492-3011.)
