A dejected Princess Buttercup (Hayley Young) waits as her fate is decided in a series of battles in The Princess Bride

Pen High Arts Media Entertainment is mixing a little technology into their fantasy as they prepare for their upcoming production of The Princess Bride, opening this Friday.

Spread out over four levels of acting space and making use of the theatre’s video system to enhance their version of William Goldman’s fantasy tale of true love and high adventure with 20 digital backdrops, incorporating “green screen” techniques, allowing the Dread Pirate Roberts to appear to scale the Cliffs of Insanity.

In case you haven’t seen the movie or read the books, those are just the first of many obstacles the hero (Connor Spear) must overcome to claim his beloved Buttercup (Hayley Young).

The production runs from April 15-20, with evening performances from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and matinees on Saturday and Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and for reservations, call 250-770-7750 or email mrutherford@summer.com.
