“It looks like a really good day” – Wildfire BC

Cooler temperatures aiding suppression efforts

Fire crews deployed to the Princeton wildfire are feeling hopeful this afternoon.

“Over all it looks like a really good day to make some good progress, said Phane Rae, information officer for Wildfire BC in an interview with the Spotlight.

The fire’s containment pushed to 40 per cent from 35 per cent last night, as containments lines on the blaze’s perimeter held in the face of high winds, he said.

The fire remains at 3,728 hectares.

Wind activity did result in more burning of “green islands” within the fire. “That’s good for us. Something we won’t have to worry about later.”

With temperatures today peaking at 25 degrees and winds between 20 and 30 km an hour the conditions are right for progress, said Rae.
