Penticton's Top 40 award winners hit S.S. Sicamous for special gala

Top 40 gala returns to city after 10 years

A light shone on forty individuals who represent Penticton's vast business community Friday night, Sept. 13, as the Top 40 awards gala returned to the city after a 10-year hiatus.

The Penticton Chamber of Commerce hosted a ceremony on the S.S. Sicamous to culminate a more than seven-month campaign and recognize the city's top businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Every Friday, from April to August, the Western News shared the stories of two leaders selected as award winners — one under the age of 40, and one over the age of 40.

"It's so wonderful to be here and celebrate the recipients," said South Okanagan-West Kootenay MP Richard Cannings, one of the several guests to attend the ceremony and honour the winners on the historic ship.

Deputy Mayor Campbell Watt, who served as a leader at the Penticton Chamber at the last Top 40 gala in 2014, was also in attendance to celebrate the winners.

A panel of judges were also honoured at the ceremony. Nominations, submitted beginning in February, were judged in four categories: Vision and leadership, innovation and achievement, impact and positive influence and social responsibility and community involvement.
