A $50,000 donation from local entrepreneur and author Dan Martell has given a major boost to BGC Okanagan’s Prevent Youth Homelessness Campaign, bringing the organization closer to its $125,000 goal.

BGC Okanagan is tackling youth homelessness through its Drop-In programs which provides safe, welcoming spaces for mentorship, life skills, and critical support for young people facing challenges such as family instability, poverty, or mental health struggles.

“Sometimes, all it takes is one positive connection to change the trajectory of a young person’s life,” said Richelle Leckey with BGC Okanagan. “Our staff provide not only a safe environment but also encouragement, mentorship, and pathways to essential resources.”

BGC Okanagan’s drop-in programs operate in Kelowna, West Kelowna, Vernon, Oliver, and Osoyoos. These programs often serve as the first step toward stability for youth at risk of homelessness.

“This is about more than preventing homelessness,” Martell noted. “It’s about giving young people hope, the tools to succeed, and the confidence to build a brighter future.”

Donations to BGC Okanagan’s Prevent Youth Homelessness Campaign can can be made through the organization’s website.
