A new hospitality business could be Sendero Canyon-bound.

Penticton City Council will hear a proposal on Tuesday, Dec. 17, that calls for the operation of a bed and breakfast at 1112 Syer Road.

Located on the eastern hillsides of Penticton within the Sendero Canyon neighbourhood, the business will be located in a single-family home that was built in 2023.

"The house is still intended to be used as the primary residence of the owner, and it is proposed to have three sleeping rooms used for guest accommodation," a staff report to city council reads.

There is space on the property for five parking spots, it added.

With the B.C. government's new legislation on short-term rentals now in effect, the property would only be allowed to have one guest suite used as a short-term option.

To allow for the bed and breakfast plan to proceed, a site-specific provision is needed for the Small-Scale Multi-Unit Residential zoning.

On Dec. 17, municipal politicians will be asked to the zoning amendment bylaw its first reading and to send the project to a public hearing.

The public hearing would be scheduled for Jan. 14, city officials said.

Sendero Canyon, one of the city's newest neighbourhoods, is a residential subdivision that began development in the late 2000s. It contains a mix of single-family homes and townhouses.
