A celebrity chef known for his charity work has returned to the Okanagan and is already giving back to Penticton’s most vulnerable.
Chef Victor Bongo will be at the Penticton Soupateria on Thursday, Oct. 26 starting at 11:30 a.m., to serve his famous African peanut soup to anyone in need.
He’ll be working alongside the Soupateria team, led by Carina Hakanson, who has been feeding the hungry for the past several years.
Bongo’s African Peanut Soup is gluten-free and vegan-friendly, ensuring that even those with special dietary restrictions can enjoy it.
The recipe for his peanut soup was passed on to Bongo from his great grand-mama and refined and elevated by him.
His efforts don’t stop there.
You can order his pre-packaged peanut soup with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Soupateria.
Bongo Hospitality and The Bongo Foundation are excited about the revival of Chef Bongo’s “Feed the People” initiative. After a hiatus due to COVID, Chef Bongo has returned to the Okanagan region to volunteer his time.

When Bongo moved from Vancouver to Penticton, the multi-award-winning executive chef had two “pop-up” restaurants in Naramata, the most recent being Bongo Bistro at Serendipity Winery a few years ago.
Bongo is also a cookbook author, which includes titles such as “Born to Cook: A Passion for Flavour” which was just released.
