A controlled burn is planned for 150 piles of wood east of Naramata starting Oct. 1.

The BC Wildfire Service has announced the plans for the burn, which are currently planned to start in October and finish by April of 2025.

The smoke from the controlled burns are expected to be visible from Naramata, Penticton, Summerland and the surounding area.

The burns will be dependent on weather and venting conditions.

The piles of wood debris are located about five kilometers east of Naramata near the Arawana Forest Servie Road.

The BC Wildfire Service's burn is part of an ongoing fuels management project in partnership with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires at all times.
