A new principal will take over at Summerland Secondary School in January as Alan Stel retires from his role.
Trevor Robinson, principal at Columbia Elementary School, will take over the role of principal at Summerland Secondary School, effective Jan. 27.
Several other changes will also take place within the school district that day as a result.
Darryl Tenisci, principal at Skaha Lake Middle School, will move to Columbia Elementary School as principal.
Cliff Schwartz, a retired Okanagan Skaha School District principal, will become acting principal at Skaha Lake Middle School from Jan. 27 until June 30.
In addition to those changes, the school district is making changes connected to the closure consolidation of Carmi Elementary School and Parkway Elementary School in Penticton, and Giant’s Head Elementary School in Summerland.
These changes all take effect Aug. 1, 2025.
Todd Lindsay, principal of Parkway Elementary School, will become the principal at the new Skaha Lake Elementary School while Jennifer Wingham, principal at Carmi Elementary School, will become principal at the new KVR Elementary School.
Scott Edwards, principal at Giant’s Head Elementary School and Kelsey Allison, vice-principal at Giant’s Head Elementary School will both move to the new Summerland Elementary School as principal and vice-principal.
These changes are part of the second year of the school board’s long-range facilities plan.
The school district is making the switch to an elementary and secondary school model, after having used a middle school model in the past.
