Penticton RCMP are asking the public to stay away from the scene of an unspecified incident on Penticton Indian Band land that occurred earlier on March 12.

The heavy police presence in the West Hills Crescent area involved local RCMP and members of the Southeast District's Emergency Response Team.

A post to social media by the RCMP stated the incident was defused, but that officers remained on scene and that the public were asked to continue to avoid the area.

The Western News has reached out to the RCMP for more information and this story will be updated as it becomes available.
