Thursday Night Jazz Band to perform in Penticton

Concert to feature sounds of 1940s to 1970s

An upcoming concert by Thursday Night Jazz Band will feature a variety of tunes from the 1940s to the 1970s.

The concert will be held at the Elks Lodge, 343 Ellis St., Penticton on May 3 beginning at 7 p.m.

The band plays music from the big band era of the 1940s to the big horn bands of the 1970s.

The music includes  songs by Steely Dan, Chicago and Tower of Power, some funk-rock like Stevie Wonder, some Motown and more.

The Thursday Night Jazz Band is a 17-piece big band with five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets,, a rhythm section of drums, piano, guitar and keyboards, and occasional singers.

The band has been performing for more than 30 years. 

Today, the band typically plays for fundraising events, and individual members do not take pay for performing.

Admission to the concert is $15 at the door.
