After helping lead the Penticton Vees to their third straight Interior Conference championship, Larry Keenan has been announced as the team’s playoff MVP.

The Midhurst, Ont. product — who was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the 2023 NHL Draft — led all Vees defenceman in scoring during the team’s run to the Fred Page Cup Finals in 2024.

Keenan posted nine points in 22 postseason games while scoring two goals when the Vees were trailing late in games against the Vernon Vipers and Salmon Arm Silverbacks, respectively.

Penticton’s journey came to an end Sunday, May 26, when the Surrey Eagles downed the Vees in Game 6 and won their first Fred Page Cup in 11 years.

“Larry elevated his game throughout the entire two-month playoff run,” said Fred Harbinson, the Vees’ head coach, general manager and president. “His play with and without the puck was a major contributor to our 14 playoff wins.”

Keenan tallied 30 points in 53 games during the regular season and was one of more than a dozen players to make their BCHL debuts in 2023-2024.

The 19-year-old will play next season at the University of Massachusetts.
