The 2024-2025 Penticton Vees hit the ice for the first time Saturday, Aug. 31, for the Peaches Cup, an intrasquad game that headlines the start of the club's training camp every year.
Fans gathered at the South Okanagan Events Centre to watch returning players from last season's Interior Conference championship squad, and to get their first look at some of the team's offseason acquisitions.
It was Team Blue against Team White over the Labour Day weekend, with the latter holding off for a 4-2 victory.
Ryden Evers, a 2024 BCHL champion who was acquired by the Vees in a trade earlier this summer, scored twice for Team White. Jack Potulny and Matthew Cataldo also scored for the team.
Anselmo Rego, a returning player from last season and recent recipient of the BCHL's Kyle Turris Community Award, found the back of the net for Team Blue.
Caton Ryan, who signed with Penticton in July, also scored for Team Blue.
All three Vees goaltenders from last season — Will Ingemann, Andrew Ness and Sharky Nowek — are back with the team for 2024-2025.
Kelowna-born netminder Conner Nicolson, who most recently suited up for the Okanagan Hockey Academy, also got time in the crease during the Peaches Cup over the weekend.
In total, the Vees have around 10 returning skaters from last season.
Penticton will be back on the ice Sept. 6, this time for a pre-season showdown against the Trail Smoke Eaters in the Kootenays.
The team returns to the SOEC on Sept. 7, when it hosts the Vernon Vipers for its second of four pre-season contests.
