Max Heise scored two goals, Will Ingemann made 21 saves and the Penticton Vees cruised to a 5-1 win over the Okotoks Oilers in their first home game of the season on Friday, Oct. 4.
In the first-ever meeting between Okotoks and Penticton (4-1-0-0), more than 3,100 at the South Okanagan Events Centre watched the home team jump out to a 4-0 lead midway through the second period to put the game out of reach.
Along with Heise's two markers, Nolan Stevenson, Luke Posthumus and Landon Wright also scored for the Vees. Three others — Simon Meier, Zach Nyman and Anselmo Rego — recorded two assists.
Ingemann notched his third win of the 2024-2025 BCHL season, making 12 saves in the second period alone.
Spencer Rheaume scored the Oilers' only goal of the night, doing so on the power play late in the middle frame.
Okotoks (1-4-0-0) used 29 saves from goaltender Simon Westling.
Heise got the party started four minutes into the first period, scoring his second goal of the campaign on the power play to give Penticton a 1-0 lead. Stevenson found the back of the net six minutes later to extend the Vees' advantage.
Posthumus and Wright scored at 7:53 and 9:18 of the middle frame, respectively, before Heise scored his second of the game on the power play at 11:27 of the period.
Neither team found the back of the net in the third, with the Vees limiting their Alberta foes to just five shots in the frame.
The Vees are back on the road Saturday, Oct. 5, when they visit the Vernon Vipers (0-4-1-0) at Kal Tire Place.
Vernon remains winless in five games this season. Puck drop Saturday is at 6 p.m.
