Second-year forward Anselmo Rego has been named an alternate captain for the Penticton Vees, the BCHL club announced Thursday.
Rego joins previously announced captain Conyr Hellyer, and alternate captains Nolan Stevenson and Brock Reinhart on the team's leadership group for the 2024-2025 campaign.
“Very grateful to be named assistant captain for this upcoming season," Rego said. "Excited to help lead this group to the next level."
The 19-year-old recorded 21 points in 38 regular-season games last season, before adding four goals and nine points in 22 playoff contests.
Rego was also last year's recipient of the BCHL Kyle Turris Community Award, handed annually to players "who go above and beyond in their community," according to the league.
“Every captain on our leadership team brings a needed element for our group," said Fred Harbinson, the Vees' president, general manager and head coach. "Anselmo brings a positive energy to the rink on a daily basis that is simply contagious."
The Vees begin the regular season on Sept. 20, in Alberta against the Spruce Grove Saints.
