As the Oct. 20 municipal election approaches, Summerlanders are being encouraged to submit questions for upcoming candidate forums.

The Summerland Chamber of Commerce will hold forums at Centre Stage Theatre on Oct. 3 and 4, beginning at 7 p.m. both evenings.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3, the forum will be for the four school trustee candidates, followed by the three mayoral candidates.

On Thursday, Oct. 4, the forum will be for the nine municipal councillor candidates.

The forums will feature questions submitted by the public.

Those with questions are asked to submit them by email to dhull@summerlandchamber.com or drop them off at the Summerland Chamber office, 15600 Hwy. 97, Summerland. The deadline for emailed questions is Friday, Sept. 28.

Some questions will also be taken from those in the audience at the forum.

During the forums, candidates will each have the opportunity to present opening and closing remarks.

The questions will be asked to specific candidates at random.

However, candidates with a strong opinion on a specific question may also offer their own responses.

Each candidate will be given six 30-second rebuttal cards, to be used to allow the candidate to respond to another candidate’s statements or to extend an allotted speaking time.

The municipal election will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 8 a.m. to 8 . Voting will take place at Summerland Secondary School and Giant’s Head Elementary School.

Advance voting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10 and Tuesday, Oct. 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Municipal Hall.

The new council will hold its inaugural meeting on Monday, Nov. 5.
