Another contender may be throwing their hat in for the municipal election this fall.

Penticton businessman and former city councillor, John Vassilaki, is advertising that he is planning to make a “special announcement for the future of Penticton” on Sept. 6 outside city hall at noon.

While he isn’t confirming that he is running for office, Vassilaki’s ad in the Western News says the announcement is regarding the upcoming municipal election and asks for the presence of “all his supporters and those who wish for their voice to be heard again.”

After serving as a councillor for a number of terms, Vassilaki ran for mayor in 2014 and received 3,012 votes, coming in second to the current mayor, Andrew Jakubeit, who garnered 5,126 votes.
