Several incidents of theft over the past few days at Apex Mountain Resort have Penticton RCMP reminding the public to ensure their vehicles and homes are secure.

On Feb. 28 RCMP received three reports of theft from vehicles in the afternoon. The first came at 1:50 p.m. where change and a $300 pair of sunglasses were taken from a vehicle in the 1200 block of Apex Mountain Road. Also in the same neighbourhood an unlocked vehicle was entered overnight with spare keys, insurance papers and change missing. Earlier in the day, at 3:25 p.m., another report came from Clearview Crescent of a vehicle that had been left unlocked and the wallets were stolen. RCMP said credit cards from the wallets were used at Penticton businesses and the matter remains under investigation pending the review of surveillance video.

On Wednesday at 2:35 p.m. the Penticton Targeted Enforcement Unit observed a grey Silverado pickup truck exiting the Sun Leisure Mobile Home Park at 3999 Skaha Lake Rd. with alleged property crime suspects inside. RCMP said the vehicle appeared to take off at a high rate of speed and was safely pulled over by First Nations Police Const. Mike Rampone near the Penticton Indian Band hall. The same truck that had been entered the previous night on Apex Mountain Road and at 6 a.m. it was reported stolen. The canopy was found abandoned on White Lake Road.

Police said the plates on the truck were believed to be stolen from a Brandon Avenue address. Identification was also located that had been stolen from a vehicle on Clearview Crescent.

The 50-year-old driver was set to appear in court on Thursday facing charges of theft, possession of stolen property and dangerous driving.

Also on Wednesday at 2:35 a.m. police received a report of an alarm at a residence on The Circle. The front door of the seasonal residence had been kicked in. A few hours later at 8:55 a.m. there was another report of an unlocked vehicle that had been rummaged through at The Circle. When police arrived it appeared a neighbouring residence had damage to the front door. The owner was located and confirmed they were missing a Keurig coffee maker and Bose speaker. At 11:20 a.m. a residence in the 1400 block of Apex Mountain Road was reported to have been ransacked with a TV and stereo missing. The owner of the home was out of the country and the matter is still under investigation.

Penticton RCMP are asking the public’s assistance in preventing crime by ensuring that your vehicle is locked and valuables are not left in parked vehicles.
