Have questions about birds?

Here’s your chance to learn about species in the area and how to attract them to your yard for a closer look. Regional bird experts from the Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship (OSS) are holding a half-day workshop in Keremeos on April 7.

The workshop is aimed at giving birder beginners information on how to identify local birds.

Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship works together with local residents and communities to support conservation of important habitats and wildlife.

Participants will receive information including a backgrounder on bird anatomy, how to get started with identifying birds including a summary of field guides and apps available, as well as learn how to attract birds to their properties using different feeders, feed and nest boxes. Weather permitting, participants will get a chance to head outdoors to put their new skills to use.

These workshops are aimed at local residents who can’t tell a wren from a finch or a sparrow. Spring is in the air and it is a great time to get outside and enjoy the birds that share our wonderful valleys.

Workshops will be held:

Okanagan Regional Library Keremeos Branch, April 7th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Okanagan Crush Pad in Summerland on April 8th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Historic O’Keefe Ranch April 14th 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

While the workshops are free, space is limited and OSS is asking hopeful participants to register through a link provided on their website at www.osstewardship.ca/calendar
