Brad Besler is seeking a seat on Summerland’s municipal council.
Besler, who has a business degree from Simon Fraser University and owns Big Dog Fencing, said if elected he will act as Summerland’s watchdog at the council table.

“This is my hometown and I care about its future,” he said. “I am running for council to make a positive impact in our community.”
Besler said if elected he will focus on moving forward with the new aquatic centre, affordable housing, a permanent location for the dog park, lobbying the provincial and federal governments for grants to fix roads, and promoting the community.
Besler has been in the news in a dispute he and his brother had with a neighbouring mushroom farm on Garnet Valley Road.
In October 2021, the two brothers were found guilty of one count each of mischief. They received a conditional discharge and nine months of probation. Brad Besler later received another year of more restrictions. However, in March, 2022, the brothers had their convictions overturned.
“I speak truth to power and have successfully exposed misconduct in the RCMP and Crown counsel,” Besler said when announcing his candidacy.
The municipal election for Summerland’s mayor and six municipal councillors will be on Oct. 15. Those elected will serve for four years.
