Hundreds, if not thousands, of people are expected to attend the Celebration of Life for Cache Creek fire chief Clayton Cassidy, which will be held on Saturday, June 3 at the Cache Creek Park. Important parking notices and restrictions have been put in place for the event.

Starting at approximately 1 p.m., a procession of family members and firefighters from around the province will make its way from the Cache Creek fire hall to the park along Quartz Road. As a result:

No vehicle traffic will be permitted on Quartz Road between Stage Road and Trans-Canada Highway between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

No vehicle traffic will be permitted on Quartz Road between Stage Road and the Cache Creek Park between 12 and 2 p.m.

No vehicle traffic will be permitted to travel from Valleyview Crescent or Valleyview Drive to Parke Road between 1 and 2 p.m.

No vehicle traffic will be permitted n Stage Road between Quartz Road and Cariboo Highway between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Drivers will be permitted to drive passengers to the pool parking lot at the Cache Creek Park, drop off passengers, and then leave to secure parking elsewhere.

Parking is NOT permitted at the Community Hall, the Fire Hall, or at Cache Creek Elementary School. These lots are allocated for first responders only.

There is very limited parking in the village. There is no parking at or around the Cache Creek Park. The following private properties have granted permission for their space to be used for public parking:

Bob Corley (1408 Quartz Road); access to empty lot off Parke Road. Designated for seniors or people with disabilities.

Bear’s Claw Lodge (northeast corner and along split rail fence)

Bonaparte Indian Band Natural Resources office, Quartz Road

BC Hydro office, Quartz Road

Village of Cache Creek Municipal office, Quartz Road

Cache Creek Machine Shop, Quartz Road

Kal Tire (highway frontage and other spaces that do not interfere with business)

In partnership with School District No. 74, the Village of Cache Creek has arranged for attendees to be shuttled to and from the service. The lots dedicated for parking are the two empty lots immediately north of the Starhouse Restaurant. The shuttles will begin transporting passengers to the service at 11 a.m., and continue to 2 p.m.

Following the service, the buses will begin transporting passengers back to the parking area. This will continue until approximately 5:30 p.m. or until all passengers have been returned to the parking area. There is no fee for this service.

The planning committee thanks everyone for their patience, understanding, and support.

The service starts at 2 p.m. It is being treated as a full Line of Duty funeral, which can include a number of traditional military-style honours and traditions. A reception at the Cache Creek Community Hall will follow the procession and service. The family is urging those who plan to attend to bring their own chair, as there might not be enough seating available in the cover-all at the park.

The E-Comm flags have been lowered to half-staff in honour of the fallen fire chief, a 30-year veteran with the Cache Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Cassidy had been missing since May 5 after being swept away by floodwater while in the line of duty, checking rising water levels in washed out areas of the community.

After three weeks of search-and-rescue efforts, his body was found on May 27 and recovered in the morning of May 28.

A spokesperson for E-Comm says “It is with a heavy heart that we send our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of chief Clayton Cassidy.”
