Council has jumped in to offer some emergency aid to the Peachfest float.

Coun. Andre Martin reported that the sound system on the float had "collapsed" and needed immediate replacement at a cost of $1,500.

"It represents the city in a number of parades," said Martin. Mayor Andrew Jakubeit supported that with a recounting of his experience travelling with the float t the Calgary Stampede and watching the reaction of people along the parade route to the float.

"It was quite humbling," said Jakubeit.

Martin proposed the city support the Peachfest float, drawing the $1,500 as an advance on the money the city would contribute next year as part of the city's regular donation towards refurbishing the float.

Martin also pointed out the float must be refurbished every three years to qualify for inclusion in the larger parades.
