As work begins on revising Penticton’s Official Community Plan, the city is asking residents to share their vision for the city, starting this Saturday.
The first round of engagement begins with a fill-in-the-blank question: “In 2045, Penticton will be ________________.”
“It is very important for residents to get involved early in this work,” said Ben Johnson, special projects manager. “The guidance from the community will set the scene for the development of the OCP vision and land use policies and the direction for future development and growth of our community.”
In late March, city hall released their choices for the 12 community-at-large seats on the 17-member OCP Task Force, which is charged with assisting mayor and council in the creation of an updated OCP and advising city staff on technical, process and engagement issues relating to the creation of the OCP. The 12 candidates were chosen from 50 community members who applied to be part of the task force.
Task Force members will be on hand at the five scheduled community engagement events to hear feedback.
May 6: Penticton Farmers’ Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
May 10: Community Centre, 3 to 6 p.m.
May 13: Penticton Farmers’ Market, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
May 18: Cannery Brewing, 4:30 to 7 p.m.
May 28: Seniors’ Drop-in Centre, 1 to 3 p.m.
City staff will also be reaching out to community groups in coming weeks to gather their input into the vision.
