City of Penticton ready to share OCP drafts

Penticton’s Official Community Plan task force is ready to share the draft policies and land use plan that will guide future development of the city.

“We’ve had great community involvement so far which has helped shape the direction of the new OCP,” said Ben Johnson, special projects manager.

Johnson said that involvement has been developed into goals and policies, which will be available for input at a serious of upcoming open houses.

The open houses features displays describing the direction for: housing; transportation and infrastructure; economy; environment and resilience; agriculture and food systems; arts, culture and heritage as wall as parks and recreation. A draft of the future land use plan for the OCP will also be on display.

The first open house is on Sept. 11 at the Seniors’ Drop-in Centre on South Main from 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. On Sept. 13 the open house moves to the Penticton Safety Village on Edmonton Avenue from 4 to 7 p.m., and attendees are invited to bring their kids and bikes.

On Sept. 15, the discussion moves to Gyro Park, next to the Farmers’ Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The next step in the process is a multi-day design charrette to help produce form and character guidelines. running from Sept. 18 to 21 and involving the OCP task force and city staff.

As part of the charrette, residents are invited to attend a presentation on Sept. 17 at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre from 7 to 9 p.m. At the presentation, attendees can meet the design team, and learn more about urban design best practices and the work the team will undertake for the city during the design workshop over the next few days. At the end of the design workshop, the city will host a follow up open house to share the results of the workshop with residents and invite their feedback. That is scheduled for Gyro Park again, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 22.
