The RDOS has several compost units for sale to help residents create their own compost for home gardens.

Politicians might not have been able to come to a consensus about the location of regional facility, but that shouldn’t stop residents from composting their own food and yard waste.

The Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen is selling wholesale compost bins until March 21 for pickup on April 22 (Earth Day) at participating locations.

The FreeGarden Earth Compost Bin™ is available for $46 plus taxes. The design of the curved black container helps break down garden waste, leaves, uncooked fruits and vegetables. It is a great system for creating rich compost for home gardens.

In Penticton, residents can pre-purchase compost bins at Canadian Tire, GardenWorks and Home Hardware. Bins are for sale in Oliver at Canadian Tire and in Keremeos at the Home Building Centre,

This year RDOS will also sell the Green Cone™. The Green Cone is capable of breaking down cooked food waste and meat. It is being sold for $124.85 plus taxes. This system is buried partially in the ground where it breaks down waste directly into the soil. The Green Cone is a great compliment to an existing compost bin. For more information on how to purchase and use the Green Cone, contact the RDOS Solid Waste Division at 250-490-4129, info@rdos.bc.ca or visit www.rdos.bc.ca.
