A construction company has been fined by WorkSafe BC for failure to comply with safety rules at a Penticton worksite.
A1 Alberta Construction Ltd. was fined $2,500 on Aug. 7 following an inspection by WorkSafe BC that determined workers had been on an unguarded scaffold system without the use of a fall protection system while applying stucco. This exposed workers to fall risks of up to 42 feet.
WorkSafe BC found that the firm failed to ensure fall protection was used and failed to ensure elevated work platforms had guardrails. These were both high-risk violations, according to the safety organization.
The fine was imposed on Aug. 7. The address of the site was not given by WorkSafe BC.
The only other fine imposed by WorkSafe BC in Penticton so far this year occurred June 8 and was also for $2,500. Mundi Onward Enterprises Inc. was forced to pay the fine for failure to install fall protection anchors, also exposing workers to fall risks of up to 42 ft.
This took place at the construction site of a four-storey hotel.
