The playground at Kiwanis Park in Penticton will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 25, because of construction work.

The city says the playground won’t be available for public use all day to allow for crews to safely remove a large concrete pad where a demolished washroom building had been.

After the concrete pad is removed, people in the area may face disruptions in the coming months while crews work to fill and landscape the area.

In November 2021, the city closed the Edmonton Avenue playground to demolish a pair of washrooms for the new, neighbouring childcare centre.

According to the city, the new facility serves as a replacement for the structures that had reached the end of their service life.

Following a series of lengthy closures, the playground reopened in June 2022.

With crews expected on scene this week, visitors in the area are advised to slow down and watch for machinery.

The sports field at the park will remain open on Wednesday.

Anyone with questions is asked to call the city’s parks department at 250-490-2500.
