Crews gain ground on trio of fires in Penticton area

Growth of three blazes west of the city has slowed as firefighters dig in containment lines

Fire information from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and B.C. Wildfire Management Branch as of Saturday at 8 a.m.

Apex Mountain

No change from previous report. The fire remains approximately 313 hectares and is approximately 50 per cent contained. Crews will continue to tie in guards. The evacuation alert remains for the 13 previously identified properties

Jura Fire

The fire has been measured at 460 hectares.  Forestry crews, air and ground support were able to make good progress on this fire Friday with literally zero growth and are now calling the fire 70 per cent contained.  As a precautionary safeguard, the evacuation alert remains for the 606 previously identified properties and will be reassessed Saturday.

Boot Hill (Nickleplate)

Remains at approximately 138 hectares with 30 per cent containment. Crews and heavy equipment were able to make good progress Friday establishing a guard around this fire. More personnel will be assigned to this fire over the weekend. No evacuation alerts associated with this incident.
