Crime in Summerland increased in almost every category monitored by the police during the second quarter of 2021.
The policing statistics were presented in the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment Quarterly Report.
The number of calls for police service rose by 25 per cent compared with the same period of 2020. From April to June of this year, there were 867 calls for service, up from 696 from the same period in 2020.

Violent crime statistics showed an increase of 74 per cent.
Assaults rose by 47 per cent, from 15 during the second quarter of 2020 to 22 during the second quarter of this year. Cases of uttering threats increased by 67 per cent, from nine to 15.
Police also observed increases in all categories of property crimes except for business break and enters.
Property crimes showed an increase of 73 per cent in the second quarter of this year.
The number of cases of mischief to property rose by 69 per cent, from 29 in the second quarter of last year to 49 in the second quarter of this year. Thefts from vehicles rose by 71 per cent, from 14 to 24.
The number of frauds reported rose by 78 per cent, from nine to 16.
Since the beginning of the year, police have seen calls for service increase by 23 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.
Violent crimes have risen by 16 per cent in the first half of this year, while property crime statistics have increased by 36 per cent.
