A staffing shortage at the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen means developers may have to wait longer to get building permits.
The region’s development services department is currently operating with reduced staffing, causing building inspections to be completed by three staff members in two-member municipalities.
In a Thursday, July 21 announcement, the RDOS said that its staffing shortage is due to recent vacancies which they are “working to fill as soon as possible.”
Under normal circumstances, building permits take about four to six weeks to process, the region added.
While three staff members team up in two-member municipalities, the region says that the following electoral districts may be impacted by the reduced staffing:
• Electoral Area “A” (Rural Osoyoos)
• Electoral Area “C” (Rural Oliver)
• Electoral Area “D” (Carmi, Skaha Lake East, Okanagan Falls, Vaseux Lake)
• Electoral Area “E” (Naramata, Falconridge)
• Electoral Area “F” (West Bench, Husula Highlands, Faulder, Summerland North)
• Electoral Area “I” (Kaleden, St. Andrews, Twin Lakes, Highway 3A, Apex, Green Mountain Road, Farleigh Lake, Marron Valley Road)
• Electoral Area “H” (Rural Princeton)
