Over $1 million in upgrades for Oliver’s Station Street were approved by the town council on Aug. 23.
Work on the new upgrades was awarded to H&M Excavating, the company currently working on the town’s Gallagher Lake siphon repair project.
That project is expected to have 2021’s phase of work finished in the next few weeks, after which the crews will pivot to working on Station Street.
The street’s sidewalks and asphalt will be ripped up in order to provide access for crews to remove and replace the existing storm sewers, as well as to install new sanitary sewer and water main pipes.
The exact schedule for the project has not been decided, but is expected to start in September and last until November.
After the road and underground work is completed, H&M would also be responsible for the landscaping and street lighting upgrades.
The project is a part of the town’s revitalization efforts for downtown Oliver, which will eventually include a future community hub and public space.
H&M Excavating was the only company to bid on the project, and their projected costs of $1,376,600.93 for the project came in close to $94,000 below the town’s $1.47 million project budget.
