A former Osoyoos woman who was convicted of seven counts of drug trafficking in 2015 and skipped town before her sentencing will have to wait a little longer to find out how much time she will remain behind bars.

In 2012, Laurie-Ann Williams was caught with around $11,000 worth of drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy, prescription painkillers and LSD, after Penticton RCMP pulled over the truck she was a passenger in. The drugs were found in a false-bottomed aerosol can in a bag that was in the back of the truck. RCMP linked Williams to the bag with a receipt that had her name on it that was found on a secondary search of the bag in a side pocket.

Following a three-day trial in 2015 she was found guilty of seven counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. While free on bail she failed to show for her sentencing hearing, leading to an arrest warrant being issued. Williams was eventually arrested in Edson, Alta. early last month.

Williams appeared at the Penticton courthouse on Monday via video from a correctional centre to be sentenced, however her lawyer, Jim Pennington had suffered a heart attack over the weekend and the sentencing was postponed.

The matter is set to return to court on Nov. 5 to fix a date for the sentencing.
