The theft of a truck in Osoyoos could have been easily avoided, according to RCMP.

Sgt. Jason Bayda said keys left in the ignition of a 1992 Ford F150 truck while in front of a residence on Cottonwood Drive on Jan. 7 led to a crime of opportunity.

The truck was located two days later with the key still in the ignition.

“A suspect has not been identified and due to the condition of the interior of the vehicle police were unable to gather forensic evidence,” said Bayda in a news release. “It appears this was a crime of opportunity and very easily could have been avoided had the vehicle been left secured.”

RCMP are reminding the public to be responsible in helping reduce property crime.
