Elk strikes passing car and is killed

Princeton RCMP warn motorists of passing herds

Princeton RCMP are warning drivers along Highway 3 to beware of elk.

On Saturday a driver on that road, near Kennedy Lake, sustained serious damage to his vehicle when it was struck in the driver’s side by an elk crossing the highway, according to Sergeant Barry Kennedy.

“The head of the elk smashed into the windshield. After the impact the vehicle swerved into the eastbound traffic and spun out of control.”

The driver, a 42-year-old man from Chilliwack, was not injured.

The elk was killed.

“We’ve actually had several reports of elk herds west of Princeton crossing the highway so just be aware that there are a lot of elk around,” said Kennedy.
