Penticton firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at Cascade Gardens residential complex.

Four families are out of their homes tonight, after a blaze spread through a residential complex in a Penticton neighbourhood.

Firefighters were called to the a blaze Thursday evening about 8:45 p.m. arriving on scene at the Cascade Gardens multi-unit residential complex to find four units involved.

Crews had the flames under control quickly, though smoke continued to fill the air. Firefighters remained working on the townhouses, having knocked down the main part of the blaze. Smoke continued to billow out of the four units at around 11 p.m.

Witnesses believed the fire started in unit 122, before spreading next door to 124. All units have smoke damage but it is unknown if the fire spread to all four townhouses.

Bystanders said the fire might have started after a domestic dispute in one of the units and appeared to have started in the basement of 122. Unconfirmed reports say the RCMP may have arrested someone at the scene.
