Cathy Tanquay couldn’t wait to get home to try the freshly baked carrot cake she bought at Saturday’s first Penticton Famers’ Market of the season on Main Street.

“I didn’t even know it was starting today, I had just gone to make a donation to the cancer society and everyone is here,” said Tanquay showing off her purchases. “Great food, great entertainment and people are really nice, I love Penticton. I like the fruits and the vegetables.”

Una Winter was working at the Ambercott Acres station, a Cawston farm which uses the permaculture principles and has been at the market for more than a quarter century.

“We’ve been looking forward to it (market) all winter and it’s been a long winter,” said Winter. “It’s nice, it’s like a nice little community here to see all the other farmers.

“It’s really nice to keep building a community with them.”

The Farmers market happen each Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the 100-block of Main Street.
