Fire behind Penticton store under investigation

Penticton firefighters were called into action with a report of a fire behind the Walmart around 5:15 p.m. on Monday, May 23.

Police have identified two males who allegedly deliberately set a pine tree on fire behind Walmart Monday evening.

Penticton firefighters were called into action with a report of a fire behind the Walmart around 5:15 p.m. on May 23.

A witness said a tree, fence and shrubs were on fire at a house located behind the store. It is believed someone pulled the fire alarm inside the store to warn shoppers to get out as a precaution. The fire was put out by 5:30 p.m.

The suspects, who were captured via video surveillance footage, include a caucasian male, six feet tall, 230 pounds, wearing a black T-shirt, black pants and a black hoodie. The other is caucasian, five foot eight, wearing all black with a camouflage, full-brimmed hat.

Police have yet to release the still images of the suspects and have deemed the fire suspicious.
