Gaming grants doled out to South Okanagan groups

Four societies in Penticton and two in Summerland received a combined $95,500.

The B.C. government’s community gaming grant program is benefitting four societies in Penticton and two in Summerland with a combined $95,500.

The grants are awarded under the sport and arts and culture category of the community gaming grant program, which allows non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

Gaming grants are also awarded in the categories of public safety, human and social services, parent advisory councils and the environment.

The Pentastic Jazz Festival Society ($28,000), the Penticton Peach Festival Society ($10,000), the Apex Ski Club’s youth alpine ski program ($17,000), the Penticton Aquatic Association ($16,000), the Summerland Action Festival Association ($10,000) and the South Okanagan Sailing Association ($14,500) received the funding, which comes from the $135 million in gaming grants approved every year by the provincial government.

The grants benefit more than 5,000 local non-profit organizations that serve communities throughout B.C.
